LongLiveDada CALL FOR ENTRIES!
2016 marks 100 years since the birth of Dada. In 1916, a pokey club in the backstreets of Zurich became the birthplace of a movement for like-minded artists who sought an escape from the horrors of the First World War. The Cabaret Voltaire provided them with the perfect place to form Dadaism, an anti-art movement that rejected the rules that both society and art imposed.
Central artist to the movement, Picabia, said of Dada, ’ One must be a nomad, travelling through ideas as one travels through countries and cities, eating parakeets and hummingbirds’ …. Ok we aren’t asking you to eat a parakeet (in fact, please don’t) but we ARE telling you that you should harness that Dada surrealism, make a film, and enter it into our competition! #LongLiveDada

It’s 2016. Dada is 100 years old. Film is Dead. Long live Dada.
To celebrate the centenary of the anti-art artistic movement, headed up by the likes of Marcel Duchamp, LSFF and Internationale Kurzfilmtage Winterthur in Switzerland are running a DADA Short Film Competition. The competition forms part of the Zürich meets London Festival of Two Cities (17th – 21st May 2016).
HOW TO ENTER:
- Be inspired by Dada
- Make a film (between 1 and 15 minutes long)
- Send a Vimeo link (and password) to dada@shortfilms.org.uk before the 18th April 2016
You can either make a new film, or submit an existing film made after January 2015.*
The winning entry will receive £1,000 prize money. It will be screened alongside a selection of other competition entries at a special event at the ICA on 20 May 2016. The event willexplore contemporary perceptions of Dada as part of Zürich meets London – A Festival of Two Cities, a multi-venue festival in London on 17-21 May that will include cultural, science and culinary events.
The festival is jointly presented by the City of Zurich, Canton of Zurich and Zurich Tourism, the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
*Should your film be selected, Zürich meets London would have the right to use the film for their online communication for max. 1 year. Should your film be shortlisted, we will also require you to send us the high quality pro-res source file of your film no later than Thursday 28th April 2016. If we do not receive your film by this time, we will be unable to screen it.
