On the 1st-3rd March, Watersprite Student Film Festival opens its doors for a fourth consecutive year, showcasing the best student filmmaking talent from a total of 41 countries and 6 continents.
Watersprite is known for its glamour and this year is no different. Aside from the stunning historic Cambridge venues, the Watersprite programme boasts a stellar line up of exclusive masterclasses with Academy Award winners and Nominees, panels with the film industry’s most esteemed partners including BAFTA, Virgin Media Shorts, Women In Film and TV and Shooting People, as well as quirky speed-dating style events aimed at providing the best opportunity to learn from speakers at the very top of their field.
Highlights of the programme include a Masterclass with John Logan (Skyfall, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Coriolanus), a make-up application workshop with the Oscar-winning make-up artist, Jenny Shircore (Elizabeth) and a talk on film composition led by former Dire Straits member, Hal Lindes.
For those of you who are looking for particular help with your film career, Watersprite panel topics include ‘Financing Film’, with such panellists as Christos Michaels (What Women Want, The Passion, Apocalypto) and ‘Women In Film and TV’, hosted by Lisa Marie-Hall (This Is England ’86, Malice in Wonderland, Somers Town) and documentary director Eva Weber, amongst others.
Take a look at the festival’s website for recent interviews with Watersprite supporters such as Andy Serkis and David Yates, as well as the recently announced nominees for the 2013 Awards.
