It’s coming up 14 years LSFF has been parked in London and our feet got itchy. So, we decided, for this year’s pre-fest special event, that we could probably do with the fresh air and we’d come visit you. We’ve packed up all of the best bits and our personal faves of London Short Film Festival 2016  into one of Picturehouse Cinema’s eclectic weekly Discover Tuesdays programmes to be screened in 19 cinemas up, down and all around the UK, simultaneously on the evening of Oct 4th.  

Now! That’s What I Call Short Film ‘16 is a selection of some of the most exciting homegrown talent in short film right now, as featured in LSFF 2016 - expect docs and drama, drag, bad, bad dates and daring animation. Oh and, of course, cats.

We’ve got all the highlights you kicked yourself for missing this January (‘cept this time, wherever on this glorious grey island you may be, you’ve no excuse to miss out!) - from BAFTA and BIFA nominated animation Manoman by Simon Cartwright to last year’s LSFF x Arts Council England commission of veteran filmmaker Nicholas Abraham’s surrealist parody Un Chat Andalou and the very best of our 2016 award winners.

Top of the bill: our 2016 LSFF Documentary Award winner, Scottish Doc Institute-funded Mining Poems or Odes by Glaswegian filmmaker Callum Rice, which went on to scoop the BAFTA Scotland for Best Short. Our 2016 Best Short Award recipient Sofia Safonova’s Tamara features alongside, a truly international, Russian, British and Czech co-production between the London Film School, Prague’s FAMU and the SiberiaDOC development scheme.

Other highlights include Luke Kondor’s Keith, which took our 2016 Lo-Budget Award, a uniquely millennial feat of filmmaking, and the documentary Black Sheep, which caused a stir amongst last year’s festival circuit for its controversial depiction of riots in Northern England. It’s an eclectic mix of genre and a masterclass in the craft of short filmmaking as its own unique, succinct cinematic form.
