Reflecting on the Farm

LSFF partners & filmmakers share their thoughts on the first edition of Down on the Farm.

In May 2013, the London Short Film Festival hosted its first official ‘Down on the Farm,’ a weekend getaway for short filmmakers to network, enjoy panel discussions and screenings hosted by the UK’s biggest film partners. The stunning Quadrangle Farm, Shoreham was the backdrop for our stay, giving filmmakers a chance to escape the bustling city life and enjoy a peaceful weekend in the countryside.

Here’s what our farmhands & partners thought of the weekend:

‘It was a pleasure to share some thoughts about a short film I cherish, Chris Marker’s La Jette. And though the sun poured down outside, it was a full house.’ – Gillies Mackinnon (Filmmaker)

‘The festival was packed with activity and enthusiasm. An intense experience on all accounts but in the most relaxing and beautiful of settings. Mixing fun with work - surely the best way to learn and network! Extremely well organised and programmed - Alice Lowe (Actress and Writer, Sightseers)

‘This was such a joyful, inspiring weekend. It was a reminder that, for all the commercial pressures involved, films are made by hand, and with love, and it captured the spirit of LSFF: creative, collaborative, endlessly original (and a little bit drunk).’ - LOCO Film Festival

‘A marvellous restorative bucolic film experience, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Expertly organised, and very relaxed - I can only imagine that Down on the Farm will soon be a compulsory stop on the autodidactic filmmakers’ circuit.’ - James Mullighan (Director, Cork Film Festival)

Down on the Farm #2 will be launched at the London Short Film Festival in January so stay tuned! In the meantime, sit back and enjoy our official Down on the Farm short film from festival alumni Jaha Brown and Tara Manandhar.
