Can you make a short film in 24 hours?

Programmers from the LSFF and Branchage festival teams have been invited to curate this year’s Films in the Forest at Bestival on the Isle of Wight, and are running a 24 hour film challenge at the festival! We want 4 pairs of filmmakers to take part. Each pair will be tasked with shooting and editing a short film (5 minutes minimum, 10 minutes max) of a designated day (from Thursday 5th - Sunday 8th September) at the festival, and each film will be screened in the Big Top at Bestival on Monday 9th, and also at bestival.net. Our favourite film will then be shown at LSFF 2014.

We want people to create films that are a little different to your standard festival overview. Perhaps it could be a fictional piece taking place at the festival, or something totally experimental - we want to hear your ideas! If you think this sounds like a challenge for you, please send your ideas to bestival@shortfilms.org.uk along with some info about your filmmaking experience and if possible a link to your most recent work. If selected, you’ll have to choose someone you know to work with as your filmmaking partner - someone who you think is up to the 24 hour film challenge!

Once selected, you will receive a pair of Bestival tickets with press access, but you will have to make your own way to the festival and will have to provide your own equipment. If you want participate in the challenge and be a part of Bestival’s 10th anniversary celebrations, please get in touch by 12pm on May 27th. The chosen 4 will be notified and announced on Monday June 3rd.

Bestival this year celebrates its 10th anniversary, and what a decade they’ve had. This year’s ‘Best Major Festival’ winner at the UK Festival Awards, they’ve grown to become arguably the best-loved festival in UK and this year’s event, curated by Rob and Josie Da Bank, looks like it could be the biggest yet. With Elton John, Snoop Dogg, The Flaming Lips, MIA and Franz Ferdinand just a few of the names getting Bestivalgoers excited, they’re definitely celebrating their landmark year in style. 2013’s theme is ‘HMS Bestival’ so you can expect plenty of sailors, pirates, mermaids and other assorted seafarers to make up the cast of your 24 hour films.
