The film is set in an alternate universe where all of our social information and our genetic compatibility, on which relationships are now based, are stored in a new technology on our thumbprints. Trevor has not yet committed himself to the 'thumbing' trend but soon discovers it may be the only way to talk to the girl of his dreams.
