In 1859, the town of Paignton completed an extension of its railway line and organised a giant feast to mark the occasion, the grand centrepiece being a specially baked one-and-a-half-ton pudding! However, jubilation soon gave way to desperation as the cider-fuelled crowd overthrew the event, and a panicked scramble ensued for a taste of the towering fruity colossus.
