New Shorts #23 A Window on the World

Ciné Lumière

British filmmakers spread their wings in search of international stories in this selection of globe-trotting short films. From the beachcombers of Texel in Holland, to the Mai La refugee camp in Thailand; from the stormchasers of Oklahoma, to the orphaned girls of Bethany in Palestine. This varied selection will take you on a journey to distant lands, as well as on an emotional rollercoaster.

Films screening in this section are eligible for the Sheffield Doc/Fest Award for Best Short Documentary, which will be presented at the LSFF Closing Night Awards Ceremony on Sunday 15th January, 2012.

    Orlando von Einsiedel 12 mins (UK, 2011)

    Feker Asheme has had a very challenging life. At 6 she ran away from a family who did not love her and ended up on the streets of the nearby city of Bahir Dar in Ethiopia. By 8 she was working in a brothel. Today, aged 19, she has found a way out of prostitution and is trying to rebuild her life.

    Dave Mutton has recorded the weather in his back garden in Leicestershire daily for over 50 years. Meanwhile Joseph T. Cooper is tornado chasing in Oklahoma for the first time.
