Installation: Helioscope
16:00 Fri 11 Jan 2013
Helioscope is a unique interactive artwork bringing together the music of Vessels and the creative talents of Studio Murmur. In this four part cinematic adventure, players move through a darkened world as a beam of light, bringing colour and motion to its inhabitants and remixing tracks from Vessel’s second LP. Composed of 250 audio-visual layers and 50,000 lines of code, the piece combines 3D interactive techniques more commonly found in computer games, with live action and stopframe animation.
The brainchild of Tim Harrison and Ian Pons Jewell, Helioscope has been quietly developed in parallel with Studio Murmur’s highly acclaimed music videos. These include ‘Bashful’ for Kwes, ‘I’m Excited’ for DJ Shadow, and the multi-award winning ‘Disappoint You’ which won Best Urban Budget video at the UK Music Video Awards, where Ian was also nominated Best New Director. This project sees Ian and Tim co-direct for the first time, a result of their long-term collaboration as writer/director and sound designer.
LSFF sees a newly developed installation version of the piece, allowing players to take control using their smartphones. For the best experience bring a pair of headphones to plug into your mobile.
