Short Films / Live Soundtracks

20:30 Sat 12 Jan 2013

Hackney Attic

An evening of live music of especially composed soundtracks to accompany short films. Blood Music play their composed music to Ivana Bobic’s short IN THE NIGHT, and the Institute of Eyes film and music collective perform live to their own short films SOLACE and THE FIRST DEAD LIES.

Blood Music and In The Night

Blood Music are a 3-piece band based in London – Simon Pomery (guitar, vocals, drums),  Kenichi Iwasa (drums, Monotribe/synthesizers/ electronics), Jordan Cunningham (bass, DIY electronics). Formed in 2011, they quickly received  praise for a set of brutal gigs at the 1234 Festival,  the Lexington (with The Quietus), and at Corsica  Studios, sharing stages with TOY, Bo Ningen, and My Disco. They also experiment in film soundtracks and site specific works. Influences include Steve Reich, Sonic Youth, and Black Dice. In an ongoing collaboration with film director Ivana Bobic, they have written music for her films, and she has provided visuals for their live shows.

IN THE NIGHT (Ivana Bobic): After being betrayed by her boyfriend, sleepless Danijela wanders through Belgrade on a hot Summer night, searching for something to distract her. The film is inter-cut with dream sequences and explores the place between imagination and reality.

Institute of Eyes

After a series of sold-out live scores at the Barbican and Roundhouse accompanying the screening of their haunting documentary feature ISOLATION, acclaimed directors Luke Seomore and Joseph Bull unveil a compelling new show to accompany their latest work. Director/composer Luke Seomore and musician Michael Garrad will perform an exclusive live soundtrack with a screening of two films exploring the passage from adolescence to adulthood; their evocative new short film THE FIRST DEAD LIES and their powerful documentary on Dagenham teenagers, SOLACE.
