LSFF brings you a night dedicated to cats, with a commissioned live score by psychedelic three-piece Stealing Sheep (Heavenly Recordings) to classic short films by Alexander Hammid & Maya Deren (Private Life of a Cat, US 1949) and Stan Brakhage (Cat’s Cradle, US 1959), plus the premiere of three new LSFF commissioned cat films by Nicholas Abrahams, Vivienne Dick and Jennifer Reeder

Plus more cat films from Jayne Parker (The Cat and the Woman, a Cautionary Tale, UK 1982), Donald Richie (Boy with Cat, US 1966), Depict! 2015 nominee Irene (Eleanor Marechal, 2015) and Johan van der Keuken (The Cat, Neth 1968), and a programme of curated Cat Shorts from Vienna Independent Shorts in co-operation with the Walker Art Center Minneapolis, bringing the finest feline films from viral hits to works of art. 

The commissioned filmmakers:

Nicholas Abrahams Has directed music for Leftfield, Huggy Bear, Prolapse etc. And made films, documentaries and art projects, including collaborations with Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller, and Icelandic band Sigur Ros.

Vivienne Dick An Irish experimental and documentary filmmaker, who became an integral figure in the New York No Wave film culture of the early eighties, featuring punk performers such as Lydia Lunch. She currently teaches film at the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, and is referenced in a song by Le Tigre.

Jennifer Reeder A filmmaker and visual artist from Ohio, who constructs personal stories about relationships, trauma and coping. Her award-winning narratives borrow from a range of forms including after school specials, amateur music videos and magical realism.
