ANIMAL ARCHITECTURE
Adam Kossoff 17 mins (UK, 2015)
Narrated by Lenny Henry, Animal Architecture tells the story of Dudley Zoo, a World Heritage Site, and the restoration of its unique modernist animal enclosures. Shot on 16mm film it emulates the black and white documentary style of the 1950's Free Cinema movement and shows how Bernard Lubetkin's 1937 designs gave as much importance to the architecture as they did to the welfare of the animals. -
ANITHER SEASON
Alastair Cook 3 mins (UK, 2015)
Anither Season was shot in Greenock Boxing Club, who are based in a Salvation Army church in Cartsdyke. Like much of post-industrial Britain, this is an area with difficult statistics on drugs, crime and mortality. This is the story of these boxers, the families who live here, struggle here, rejoice here. -
BLACK SHEEP
Christian Cerami 15 mins (UK, 2015)
A new recruit to the English Defense League takes his 13 year old brother to a far right demonstration in Bradford. -
CAMREX
Mark Chapman 14 mins (UK, 2015)
Camrex House is a notorious homeless hostel that for 40 years has upheld a fearsome reputation. Its skewed, in-house morality perpetuated by men with complex histories. Based on interviews with hostel residents, CAMREX constructs a series of unflinchingly visceral sequences that reveal a hidden world of untold stories. -
GREY AREA
Jon Barton 12 mins (UK, 2015)
Living alone in his purpose built funeral home in a small Irish town, embalmer Eamonn Grey seems strange at first glance. However it is not long before we realise he is a deeply caring man who has found his calling. As he speaks it becomes clear; preparing the dead is simple when compared to preparing families for their loss. -
THE BANANA REPUBLIC
Scott Calonico 10 mins (UK, 2015)
Built in 1962, Leith’s Cables Wynd Estate, known locally as the “Banana Flats”, became notorious as the centre of Europe’s 1980s heroin epidemic. In 2015, it borders two Michelin-starred restaurants. A local photographer and former resident documents the triumphs and tragedies that exist inside the estate’s 204 flats. -
THE LAST SMALLHOLDER
Francis Lee 8 mins (UK, 2015)
This short documentary meditates on the last remaining farmer from a once thriving agricultural hillside in Yorkshire. With none of his three children wanting to take over the business, Carson Lee ruminates on his commitment to his working life during difficult times and the fast changing landscape around him. A film about my father. -
TRAVELLING LIGHT
Conxi Fornieles 18 mins (UK, 2015)
Every July, a group of nudists from all over the world travel to the Austrian Alps to spend a week trekking. Some of them they are acquainted, some of them are new to it. This is a film about how we see ourselves when we accept who we are.
