SPECIAL EVENT: This Is Happening Without Your Permission

20:00 Sat 14 Jan 2017

ICA ICA Theatre

Our penultimate night brings the festival’s subculture theme to a head celebrating the roots and legacy of riot grrrl, with a night of live music and film.

Ana da Silva (live): Ana is a founding member of the seminal post-punk band The Raincoats – inspiration to a generation of riot grrrls. The Raincoats created a sound that while inspired by punk and rock music, is uniquely and uncompromisingly powerful and female.Ana released her first solo album ‘The Lighthouse’ on Chicks on Speed Records in 2005, and is currently recording a new solo album.

Sacred Paws (live): Described as “almost immediately infectious, a whirr of energy which blends high-life rhythms to skittish guitar lines, dervish drumming and sighing, overlapping vocals.” Sacred Paws have released their first EP on Mogwai’s Rock Action label earlier in 2016.

Ravioli Me Away (live): Un-defined by genre, Ravioli Me Away have a high energy, dangerously ambitious and delusional jazzy-post-pop-punk-hip-funk sound.

Also watch out for films including Super 8 films by The Raincoats’ Gina Birch and Ana da Silva shot in the late seventies, plus a rare screening of Bikini Kill in the UK (Lucy Thane 1993) featuring exclusive live footage of Kathleen Hanna’s riot grrrlband Bikini Kill plus Huggy Bear and The Raincoats.
