Moth Club Moth Club

Since their inception, music videos have occupied that sweet spot between sound and vision - bridging the gap between fashion and film, giving platform to choreography, indulging the more experimental while remaining a staple of pop culture. Here, we showcase work from across the genres - from electronica to folk, rap to disco - including music from St Etienne, Zed’s Dead, and Douglas McGregor. 55 mins

This is double-billed with our Special Event: Pop Docs.

  • KISS (TWO)

Patrick Taylor 5 mins (UK, 2017)

Cult Party's "Kiss (Two)" deals with themes of anxiety and release. Whether it depression, addiction or bereavement, it’s effects can be debilitating. Yet what remains is a universal desire to make peace with yourself, and the world around you. Simple and effortless, "Kiss (Two)’"s universal message is timelessly demonstrated through the medium of dance. Featuring Dutch-model Nina de Raadt (DKNY, Vogue, Albert Hammond Jr's "St. Justice") as "the dancer".
  • TRANSMISSION

Julia Souchtchinskaia 10 mins (UK, 2017)

This film explores the mundanity of low-level, repetitive jobs. About a man who goes to work and has dreams about being a machine. Every journey to work, every day merges into one. Repetition and replication. With some frames have been hand painted/scratched to emphasis the blurring of waking life and dreams.
  • DARTMOOR INTERLUDE

Amy Cutler 4 mins (UK, 2017)

Zero-budget phone film made in the unearthly morning dew of a dawn interlude after the Perseids meteor shower, 2017, near Combshead Tor. Instead of looking up at sky / comet streaks, the film looks down, in their wake, at what Vachel Lindsay called the “trembling stars” of “mighty chimes & little choirs”. Starry grass and a shattered skull to dance with.
  • CRY OF THE CITY

Boldizsar CR 3 mins (UK, 2017)

A very stylish and thought-provoking film on the theme of young people following their dreams in the big city. Alienation and financial hardships can often lead to bad decisions in life. The film uses visuals and voice-over to dramatise the struggles people with ambition often face.
  • MAGPIE EYES

Tash Tung 4 mins (UK, 2017)

Magpie Eyes follows the famously 90s band as teenagers in the modern day, in a nostalgic summer portrait of Stevenage - the first designated post-war “utopia.” Combining elements firmly set in the past with modern curiosities, everything feels slightly out of place and out of time, in a celebration of a quiet Britain that doesn't come up all that often.
  • INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION

Mario Hamad / Chensy Guan 5 mins (UK, 2017)

From the industrial revolution, with the exploitation of child labourers and workers, to the development of nuclear weapons, space exploration and missile technology; and towards a future of robotics, artificial intelligence and beyond, a spirit- manifested through anthropomorphic corporeality- traverses time and space, revealing humanity's industrial past and an unknown future. With inspired garments and jewellery.
  • SEASON OF DOUBT

Seth Pimlott 4 mins (UK, 2017)

A collaboration between Seth Pimlott and Ladan Hussein from the band Cold Specks, responding to the events that were playing out at the time in Ferguson, USA.
  • DISTRUST

Sam Rolfes 3 mins (US, 2017)

Choked and pinned with glowing scraps of regressive netscum, a body thrashes and steps through the digital visual violence as a familiar green figure hangs splayed, pierced by a spear, entrails out, while Denzel Curry and Lunice Facetime in to watch. Distrust was recorded live within a game engine, similarly to Rolfes’ previous videos for Amnesia Scanner, Danny L Harle, & his clips for Rihanna’s VMA performance. Performer Aarron Ricks twists and flows through the digital environment, stretching and manipulating the violent imagery while Rolfes triggers transitions, lights, and deformations.
  • TOO YOUNG

Chris Ullens 3 mins (UK, 2017)

In a stylishly handcrafted miniature world, a bunch of colourful characters depict several clichés of our overly connected, social media addicted and technology obsessed society. And the whole thing’s orchestrated in stop motion on the pulsing rhythms of Zeds Dead’s track “Too Young” feat. Rivers Cuomo and Pusha T!
  • ZOODIO 54

Rodrigo Rodriguez 6 mins (UK, 2017)

Synopsis This is the story of two inseparable friends fresh to London’s hedonistic gay clubbing scene. The two characters are very different. Chuckles is an exuberant free spirit – adventurous but a little self-centered, he is sometimes oblivious to the feelings of those closest to him and gets easily lost in all that glitters around him. His devoted friend Sparkles is kind and big-hearted. He appreciates the good things standing right in front of him, but painfully shy, lacks the confidence to speak his mind. Tonight these two young dreamers will be blinded by the shining lights of London’s superficial gay world but discover something much more important – sometimes love is staring you right in the face.
