POGGI & VINEL: Faith in Incoherence

18:30 Sun 12 Jan 2020

Regent Street Cinema

With their first feature Jessica Forever released in 2019, LSFF looks back at the short film work of directing duo Caroline Poggi and Jonathan Vinel.

Part of a 21st century rebirth of French Cinema, their works are epitomised by Bertrand Mandico’s Incoherence Manifesto (‘to be incoherent means to have faith in cinema; it means having a romantic approach, unformatted, free, disturbed and dreamlike, cinegenic…’) Holding a mirror up to the teenage experience in contemporary rural France, these films contrast parochial boredom with transgressive and confrontational narratives and surrealist aesthetics.

Poggi & Vinel will join us in Q&A with host Seán McGovern. Programmed by Philip Ilson. 86’
