Fantasies of young love and sublime hymnal singing all feature in this competition programme of five eclectic films navigating the ecstasy and pain wrought by living in the present tense.
In the claustrophobia of a German detention centre, Steffen Goldkamp makes time stand still as small gestures take on immense significance for its juvenile inmates, whilst Guinea-Bissau’s trans community are swept up in the perpetual motion of Eduardo Williams & Mariano Blatt’s kinetic VR poetry. All of the films in this programme qualify for LSFF’s Best International Short Film Award as well as, dependent on genre, our Best Documentary and Best Animation Awards.
This programme contains depictions of domestic abuse and flashing images.

“No es” (It isn’t) is a cumulative poem by Mariano Blatt, which is constantly written over the course of a lifetime. The text of the poem, a list of “what seems to be but isn’t”, to which verses are added over days, months, and years, can cover anything. With this list ringing in its head, Eduardo Williams’s film finds itself in a perpetual movement through spaces and around people. -
