  • ABSTRACTION

Anna McGrane 2 mins (UK, 2013)

Abstraction, referring to the 'state of being lost in thought'. Our aim was to portray the emotion of early morning, of vulnerability and sexualisation. Everything is still during the early hours, the waking thoughts and folds of bedclothes. Certain elements of the film were created regarding the poison of innocence and the ever shortening childhood young girls now face.
  • ACID TONGUE

Pat Pope 4 mins (UK, 2013)

The film begins in darkness, laser’s kick in, corrupting the image of the protagonist’s form. He writhes, dancing provocatively. After which, the protagonist opens his eyes... he’s a dark vengeful Watchmenesque character with a distinctly haunting voice. His arch nemesis and spurned love interest ‘Acid Tongue’ arrives towards the end to taunt him. Let battle commence!

SON (Katie Harrison and Charlotte Freeston) 4 mins (UK, 2013)

Influenced by the launch of Vine and the stories surrounding the use of the platform for pornography, the app is both SON's concept and camera. Shot using a makeshift rig, collections of vines were then manipulated, repeated and layered to hint at the notion of being a bird as freeing oneself from the ideals of the 'cult' of the media.

Evangelia C, the solo electronic-pop artist under the name Lola's Bad, explores in her self-directed DIY no budget video the widely abused clichés and generic aesthetics of pop video making in the 21st century and her creation is a lush sensory overload of "cult glamour" and mind-bending psychedelic visuals.

  • KURIOUS

Emily Bailey 5 mins (UK, 2013)

Abstract experimental film ruminating on the body and cosmetic enhancement. By physically manipulating film and using materials that act as extensions of the body such as hair, a synthetic consciousness has been engineered as the materials begin to take on a life of their own. The search for perfection becomes an unachievable and endless loop twinned with degradation and disintegration.

A journey into an inner world, canal locks and ponds, like black mirrors into the unknown, alchemical imagery and reflective magical spaces. The voice of Serafina Steer takes us along a path of encounters, following the serpentine shape of an English canal, we discover mythical objects that spark contemporary re-enactments of 15th century illuminated manuscripts. As the wheel of fortune turns the film spins into unexpected images and emotions with the song gliding just above and below the surface.

The lyrics repeat the phrase "We're standing in light" – ‘The Light’ could be real or imagined, a metaphor for enlightenment, either spiritually or intellectually.
