NEW SHORTS: Docs: Night of Living Docs #2

Our legendary Night of the Living Docs has expanded into two bountiful programmes of exceptional shorts. Part 2 introduces the strangely soothing world of ‘ASMR’ videos, reconstructs a lost relationship via the medium of text message and bears witness to one of England’s last coal mines as it faces closure, in a powerful, varied and eye-opening programme.

  • THE JOURNEY OF A STATELESS MAN

    It has been over fifty years since the British ended the protectorate over Kuwait, granting the country independence in the process. But after official nationality was given to just two thirds of the population, one third was left stateless, or ‘bidoon jinsiya’. The Bidoon have faced persecution ever since, denied citizenship and basic civil rights being forced to live on the fringes of society. ‘The Journey Of A Stateless Man’ is about an individual’s struggle to find asylum, told against the backdrop of Calais’ infamous Jungle refugee camp and surrounding areas. Talal journeys from Kuwait in search of finding a country that will accept him and offer safe haven for him and his family. His story is symbolic of the journey and the struggle millions are making across the world to find peace, stability and freedom.

    A day in the life of a disused agricultural object 24.3m north of the M4 motorway. Dripping water, wind, lorries passing, underwater currents, the sun and the moon compose the rhythms specific to this agricultural object. Trough No. 42 taps into these non-human rhythms to create a hypnotic cinematic meditation on place.
