DOCUMENTARY: Common Vulnerabilities
19:00 Wed 15 Jan 2020
How do we relate to spaces, lives and histories beyond our own? This programme questions the ways we look at events happening somewhere else, to someone else.
This compilation of non-fiction, in unflinching dialogues with the world around us, offers reflections on lives past and present: memorials to the Troubles, war-torn cities, the decommissioning of nuclear reactors and the disturbing lives of cattle in Indonesia.
Looking through these revelatory, empathetic lenses reminds us to reflect upon the conditions that created those realities beyond our immediate experience. Programmed by Miranda Mungai. 98’
This programme contains images of animal cruelty and footage of war

BEYOND THE NORTH WINDS: A POST NUCLEAR REVERIE
Natalie Cubides-Brady 24 mins (UK, 2019)
Beyond the North Winds is a hybrid documentary about the decommissioning of a nuclear plant in Scotland. It traces the journey of Walter Glass, who disappears while writing a report on the reactor. Concerned with landscape and time, myth and technology, the film explores the nature of ruins, and asks what environmental scars our generation will leave behind for the future.
