ASMR: Senses Working Overtime

19:30 Fri 17 Jan 2020

Rich Mix The Studio

Two newly commissioned works adopt the tingling sensorial form of ASMR (Auto Sensory Meridian Response). This divisive online phenomena is explored through moving image, dance and gender performativity, looking to how we physically express our interiority.

Figs in Wigs creates an unconventional live art mix, combining theatre, comedy and dance, to explore ASMR’s quiet extremes. Formed in 2012, they have been using puns and pop culture references to charm and disarm audiences of all ages.

This is followed by a world premiere of a new moving image work from Peter Strickland (In Fabric, The Duke of Burgundy), a personal response to an enduring preoccupation with cinema’s potential for tactility.

Our evening’s host Nwando Ebizie (Distorted Constellations, Lady Vendredi) is on hand to guide your ASMR journey, with classic YouTube pieces setting the tone of the evening. Programmed by Joanna Duncombe and Philip Ilson.

This event will have relaxed seating options. Please get in touch with Helen MacKenzie in advance at access@shortfilms.org.uk if you’d like to reserve a spot!

This programme contains full frontal nudity and suggested sexual violence.
