A retrospective of the boundary-pushing work of Austrian artist Rainer Kohlberger.

Working across live performance, installation and film, Kohlberger creates visceral audiovisual experiences through the manipulation of algorithmically generated imagery, interrogating the fertile intersection between art and science.

Tackling subject matter such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, neuroscience and digital utopias, these films offer visceral 21st century psychedelia.

Rainer joins us in conversation with fellow AI artist Anna Ridler and experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and neuroscience. Programmed by Tom Grimshaw. Tickets £5. 57’

Introducing Platform, a new strand committed to spotlighting contemporary artist filmmakers working in unconventional ways across mediums. With the aim of presenting their work to new audiences, each has been curated with a venue in mind, translating their aesthetics and preoccupations through alternative and dynamic spaces.

This will screen at the Science Museum’s IMAX Cinema as part of The Art of Innovation series. Please note this is not an IMAX or 3D presentation.

    Rainer Kohlberger’s abstract film was created entirely without a camera. Through digital algorithms, he precisely arranged a rhythm of light and shadow that pulsates off the screen into our physical space with blinding intensity.

    keep that dream burning begins with extremely fine black-and-white particles that flutter across the screen. Coagulating into rough structures, they transform into a storm of jagged artifacts and steadily changing spots of light.
