Music video directors were the only filmmakers in the entertainment industry without a trade union. In 2018, the industry organised to demand transparency, a better culture of respect and the minimisation of free work. Picking up this conversation, we look to the power of unions, freelancing culture and the prerogatives of short form directors and film creatives in safeguarding their time and labour.
